Market Notes

Compared to last week, steer sold slightly uneven with calves weighing 400-525 lbs selling firm to 5.00 higher and those over 550 lbs trading steady to 5.00 lower. Heifers sold mostly steady. Demand was moderate to good. Corn has gained back some ground this week, putting some pressure on feeder cattle which have seen a couple days in the red this week. Also, the recent warm temperatures make the fleshier calves and/or those with some hair less attractive. Slaughter cows and bulls sold steady.

Supply included: 83% Feeder Cattle (52% Steers, 46% Heifers, 2% Bulls); 13% Slaughter Cattle (95% Cows, 5% Bulls); 4% Replacement Cattle (14% Stock Cows, 82% Bred Cows, 4% Cow-Calf Pairs). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 22%.
