Market Notes
Compared to last week, steers traded mostly steady except for the 450-500 lb weight range trading 5.00-7.00 higher and those under 425 lbs selling 7.00-10.00 higher. Heifers sold firm to 5.00 higher with some loads and packages of 545-685 lb backgrounded heifers highlighting the sale and selling with very good demand. Supply was moderate. Corn was up and feeders closed sharply lower Wednesday, but it had little to no effect on the local cash market with mostly cattle under 700 lbs offered and plenty of optimism to go around. Slaughter cows sold steady to 3.00 lower.
Supply included: 86% Feeder Cattle (36% Steers, 62% Heifers, 2% Bulls); 12% Slaughter Cattle (93% Cows, 7% Bulls); 2% Replacement Cattle (64% Stock Cows, 36% Cow-Calf Pairs). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 24%.
