Market Notes
Compared to last weeks higher market, steer calves under 650 lbs and heifer calves under 550 lbs traded 8.00-15.00 lower while a nice offering of yearlings traded steady to 4.00 lower. The stocker type cattle have been selling at a high premium for several weeks now, but the majority of the grazers have been bought and with the uncertainty of the war in Europe and volatility of the markets, buyers have backed off on their optimism. The yearling market held up very well with some high quality reputation cattle on hand. Demand was moderate to good for a moderate supply. Slaughter cows sold 2.00-4.00 lower.
Supply included: 93% Feeder Cattle (56% Steers, 40% Heifers, 4% Bulls); 6% Slaughter Cattle (88% Cows, 13% Bulls); 1% Replacement Cattle (36% Stock Cows, 64% Bred Cows). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 46%.
