Market Notes

Compared to last week, steers traded mostly steady but with more interest for the 550-600 lb steers and a few highlight packages of those weighing 600-700 lbs sold with a higher undertone. Heifers sold 3.00-6.00 higher with spots up to 8.00 higher on the 400-500 lb weight range. Demand was very good and the warmer weather had grass on the minds of buyers with a very optimistic feel to the market. The futures markets have been very volatile with the conflict in Ukraine causing concern, but cattle buyers have felt confident that positive fundamentals will prevail with tighter numbers of cattle expected over the coming months and years. Supply was moderate. Slaughter cows and bulls sold steady.

Supply included: 92% Feeder Cattle (54% Steers, 45% Heifers, 1% Bulls); 8% Slaughter Cattle (94% Cows, 6% Bulls); 1% Replacement Cattle (100% Stock Cows). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 46%.
