Market Notes

Compared to last week, slaughter steers were 1.00 to 2.00 lower and slaughter heifers were 1.00 to 3.00 lower with lower packer inquiry today. Holstein slaughter steers were 3.00 to 4.00 lower this week. Cows were 1.00 to 3.00 lower no test on bulls due to no bulls last week, but bulls selling mostly average. No comparison on feeder cattle this week due to light offering last week but feeders were trending steady. There was a special bred cow and heifer sale today with a good offering of bred cattle with active buyer participation at a good value.

Supply included: 23% Feeder Cattle (14% Steers, 14% Dairy Steers, 59% Heifers, 12% Bulls, 2% Dairy Heifers); 53% Slaughter Cattle (23% Steers, 9% Dairy Steers, 37% Heifers, 27% Cows, 3% Bulls, 1% Bullocks); 24% Replacement Cattle (76% Bred Cows, 4% Bred Heifers, 20% Cow-Calf Pairs). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 62%.
