Market Notes

Compared to last week, yearling steers traded 4.00-8.00 higher while yearling heifers sold steady to 4.00 higher. Calves were lightly tested last week but steer calves traded with a higher to sharply higher undertone and heifer calves sold with a steady to higher undertone. Demand was good to very good for a moderate supply that included several loads of yearlings and still quite a few hard weaned calves. As we have turned the calendar over to March, grass buyers were very aggressive for the few true stocker cattle left. Slaughter cows and bulls sold steady.

Supply included: 84% Feeder Cattle (57% Steers, 42% Heifers, 1% Bulls); 11% Slaughter Cattle (76% Cows, 24% Bulls); 5% Replacement Cattle (22% Stock Cows, 53% Bred Cows, 25% Cow-Calf Pairs). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 68%.
