Market Notes

Compared to two weeks ago, steers and heifers sold steady to 4.00 higher. Several loads and packages of yearlings were on offer, most in medium flesh selling with good demand. Also, some reputation calves were on hand that sold with moderate to good demand. Supply was heavy for the first sale of the year. Cattle futures traded lower in response to sharply higher corn that saw the first three contract months trading over $6.00 a bushel. Slaughter cows and bulls sold steady to 3.00 higher.

Supply included: 92% Feeder Cattle (61% Steers, 38% Heifers, 0% Bulls); 6% Slaughter Cattle (91% Cows, 9% Bulls); 1% Replacement Cattle (100% Stock Cows). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 57%.
