Market Notes
Compared to last week, steer calves sold steady to 3.00 higher except those weighing 450-500 lbs trading 5.00-10.00 higher on increased demand while the heavier cattle weighing over 700 lbs sold steady to 4.00 lower. Heifers sold steady to 3.00 lower except for a light test of calves under 450 lbs selling with a firm to higher undertone. Demand was good to very good and the quality was attractive all day with reputation cattle coming through the ring. Supply was heavy. Market fundamentals appear strong, demand is good for feeder cattle and most have an optimistic outlook for the cattle market but feed cost are also much higher than they've been for several years. Slaughter cows sold steady to 2.00 higher.
Supply included: 91% Feeder Cattle (54% Steers, 43% Heifers, 3% Bulls); 8% Slaughter Cattle (100% Cows); 1% Replacement Cattle (34% Stock Cows, 66% Bred Cows). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 51%.
