Market Notes

Compared to last week, steer calves under 700 lbs sold mostly steady but with spots 4.00 lower than the top end last week and heavier weights sold 3.00-6.00 lower. Heifer calves under 500 lbs sold steady to firm with heavier weights trading mostly 4.00-6.00 lower except for those weighing 650-700 lbs selling 8.00-10.00 lower when compared to last weeks higher and more active market for that weight range. Demand was good for calves and mostly moderate for yearlings, but light in spots on those over 750 lbs. The rising feed cost simply gives cattle feeders no choice but to buy cattle cheaper to offset the input as corn has remained bullish this week and has shown little sign of slowing down. The quality was good all day. Slaughter cows and bulls sold steady to 3.00 higher.

Supply included: 94% Feeder Cattle (64% Steers, 36% Heifers, 0% Bulls); 4% Slaughter Cattle (94% Cows, 6% Bulls); 1% Replacement Cattle (27% Stock Cows, 73% Bred Cows). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 50%.
