Market Notes

Compared to two weeks ago, steers sold firm to 6.00 higher and heifers traded mostly 3.00-6.000 higher but the exception was some thinner fleshed lightweight heifers weighing 400-450 lbs selling with spots up to 15.00 higher. Demand was good to very good for a quality run of feeders with most having an attractive weigh-up, but mostly smaller sized groups were offered. Supply was moderate but several consignors brought cattle to town with some cooler weather to move stock. Trade was active and buyers were aggressive following the break with the overall feel of the market being optimistic for higher prices with simply less cattle to go around. Slaughter cows and bulls sold 7.00-10.00 lower on another large run. The slaughter cow market is under pressure from large numbers moving due to dry conditions in several parts of the country.

Supply included: 84% Feeder Cattle (46% Steers, 52% Heifers, 3% Bulls); 16% Slaughter Cattle (91% Cows, 9% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 33%.
