Market Notes
Compared to last week, steers sold uneven as the calves under 550 lbs and the heavier yearlings over 750 lbs traded steady while the midweight steers from 550-750 lbs sold 3.00-7.00 lower than last weeks higher market for those kind. Heifers sold steady to 3.00 lower. A quality run of calves and yearlings were on hand with several more new crop calves in the mix but some loads of 8 weight steers highlighted the sale. Demand was good but fewer of the calf weight yearling type cattle are left, and when compared to last weeks run that included several of those, some of the extreme top prices seen last week were out of reach for the 450-500 lb heifers and 550-650 lb steers. Cattle futures have struggled as of late and were down again on Wednesday. Slaughter cows sold sold steady to 3.00 higher, bulls steady.
Supply included: 94% Feeder Cattle (57% Steers, 41% Heifers, 2% Bulls); 5% Slaughter Cattle (80% Cows, 20% Bulls); 1% Replacement Cattle (33% Bred Cows, 56% Bred Heifers, 11% Cow-Calf Pairs). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 63%.
