Compared to last week, 400-500 lb steer calves on a much lighter offering sold steady to spots 5.00 lower on last week's very active market, 500-650 lbs sold steady to firm, spots 3.00 higher and 650-800 lbs sold with a higher undertone on a light test. Feeder heifers weighing 400500 lbs sold steady to 5.00 higher with the most advance on the 450-500 lb heifers, 500-600 lbs sold 5.00-8.00 higher on a larger offering, over 600 lbs traded with a higher undertone on few comparable sales. Demand was moderate to good on a moderate supply with the best demand on 450-650 lb steers and 400-600 lb heifers with overall quality very good on the steer and heifer calves. Slaughter cows sold mostly steady. Grains closed lower to start the week with July corn closing 12 3/4 lower and December corn dropping 10 cents lower as the market looks to see corn planters rolling in the fields this week.
Supply included: 89% Feeder Cattle (58% Steers, 39% Heifers, 3% Bulls); 11% Slaughter Cattle (4% Heifers, 89% Cows, 7% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 35%.
