Compared to last week, steer calves weighing 400-500 lbs sold 4.00-8.00 higher, spots 10.00 higher, with 500-600 lbs steers selling 3.00-5.00 higher and 600-650 lbs 5.00-8.00 higher over 650 lbs were lightly tested. Feeder heifers weighing 400-450 lbs sold steady to 5.00 higher, 450 -500 lbs sold steady to firm and 500-600 lbs selling unevenly steady with the exception of two pot loads of fancy blacks weighing 504 lbs and 567 lbs selling with a sharply higher undertone, over 600 lbs were not tested. Demand was moderate to very good with the best demand on the steer calves weighing 400-650 lbs and two pot loads of 5 weight heifers. Monday's offering included many strings and groups of top quality black steer and heifer calves weighing 400-650 lbs all selling on a very active market. Slaughter cows traded traded steady to 3.00 higher. On Monday grains were sharply higher with July corn closing 28 1/4 cents higher and December corn 16 3/4 cents higher on the strength of wheat as it closed 70 cents higher.
Supply included: 91% Feeder Cattle (52% Steers, 48% Heifers); 9% Slaughter Cattle (86% Cows, 14% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 20%.
