Compared to last week, steer calves weighing 400-600 lbs sold fully steady to firm, with spots on the 500-550 lb steers 5.00 higher, 600-700 lbs were not well tested with last week and three pot loads of 865-885 lb steers sold with a higher undertone. Heifers weighing 400-500 lbs sold steady to firm, with 500-600 lbs selling steady to 5.00 lower, over 600 lbs were not tested. Slaughter Cows sold steady to 2.00 lower. Quality on the steer calves weighing 400-600 lbs was very good and sold on and active market along with the three pot loads of big yearling steers. A big move in the Cattle futures on Monday as Feeder cattle futures were sharply higher with the front three months gaining a little over 5.00 to 5.80 and Live Cattle futures `160.00-2.55 higher on the front three months. July corn closed down 10 cents and December corn was down 9 cents also much needed rain fell in the plain states with more in the forecast all help support cattle futures.
Supply included: 85% Feeder Cattle (65% Steers, 33% Heifers, 2% Bulls); 15% Slaughter Cattle (93% Cows, 7% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 33%.
