Compared to last week steers under 800 lbs sold 3.00 to 8.00 higher and over 800 lbs sold 7.00 to 9.00 lower. Heifers under 500 lbs sold 8.00 higher, 500 to 700 lbs sold steady to 3.00 higher, 700-800 lbs sold 2.00 lower and over 800 lbs sold sharply lower on a light test. Demand was very good for cattle suited for summer grass and for replacement quality heifers with moderate demand for heavier feedlot placements. Nearby corn closed last week up .70 cents at 6.555 and June corn up .587 cents at 6.325. With corn blowing up over 6.00 cattlemen are taking some of the heavier 7 weight cattle to summer grass as they are hoping the corn will come down when their placed-on feed. Cattle on feed for March saw On Feed for April 1 at 105.3, March placements at 128.3 and Marketings at 101.5. Nebraska feedlots sold at a lower market as box beef soared to higher prices. Live sales traded 1.00 to 3.00 lower at 121.00 to 123.00 and dressed sales 4.00 lower at 192.00.
Supply included: 92% Feeder Cattle (57% Steers, 43% Heifers); 7% Slaughter Cattle (100% Cows); 2% Replacement Cattle (39% Bred Cows, 7% Bred Heifers, 37% Cow-Calf Pairs, 17% Heifer Pairs). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 72%.
