Market Notes

Compared to last week, feeders sold steady to 4.00 higher, with some feather weight heifer calves 5.00 to 8.00 higher. The supply of feeders was moderate and made up of mostly calves under 600 lbs. A few hard yearlings in the mix but those are fairly hard to find in this part of the country currently as most were sold earlier as farmers got short or completely ran out of grass quite a while ago. Demand was good, buyers still want them weaned and appreciate some shots as well, but the question of are they weaned and how many days seemed to be asked by some various buyer on nearly every draft no sooner than the auctioneer got done announcing it, just to be certain. A beautiful sale day with record setting high temperatures, ahead of a forecast of a sixty degree drop by weekend, did limit the sightseers at the barn today. All the normal buyers were in their assigned seats and a few producers on hand, but the majority chose to haul early and enjoy the sunshine. SCRS is expecting a big run next week ahead of the Thanksgiving break with several good cattle that have been held just for that sale. Slaughter cows sold mostly steady to firm.

Supply included: 90% Feeder Cattle (60% Steers, 37% Heifers, 3% Bulls); 9% Slaughter Cattle (90% Cows, 10% Bulls); 1% Replacement Cattle (100% Bred Cows). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 23%.
