Market Notes

Compared to last week, slaughter cows traded steady to 2.00 higher. Slaughter bulls traded mostly steady with some high dressing bulls 5.00 higher. Demand was good on a heavy supply of slaughter animals and a moderate supply of replacement cattle. The USDA's Cold Storage report released Monday, reported total pounds of beef in freezers were down 1 percent from the previous month but up 18 percent from last year.

Supply included: 74% Slaughter Cattle (93% Cows, 7% Bulls); 26% Replacement Cattle (23% Stock Cows, 57% Bred Cows, 3% Bred Heifers, 13% Cow-Calf Pairs, 5% Bulls).
