Market Notes

Compared to last week, slaughter cows and bulls traded mostly steady. Demand was very good on a heavy supply of slaughter animals and replacement cattle. There were several drafts of bred cows and pairs in the offering from whole herd sellouts. The USDA's Cold Storage Report released last week reported the total pounds of beef in freezers were up 1 percent from the previous month and up 4 percent from last year.

Supply included: 60% Slaughter Cattle (88% Cows, 12% Bulls); 40% Replacement Cattle (19% Stock Cows, 52% Bred Cows, 2% Bred Heifers, 26% Cow-Calf Pairs, 1% Bulls).
