Market Notes

Compared to last week, steers and heifers sold mostly 5.00 to 10.00 with some feedlot bound steers seeing an even bigger drop after last week's sharp upswing. Slaughter cows steady to 2.00 lower. Pretty sour feeling to the beef sector in general this week with cattle futures in a free fall while grain prices sky rocket. Packer margins have cleared $500 for the past couple weeks and look to widen again since the cattle feeder can't find any leverage even with unprecedented beef demand. Supply light, demand light to moderate.

Supply included: 87% Feeder Cattle (57% Steers, 43% Heifers); 13% Slaughter Cattle (92% Cows, 8% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 42%.
