Market Notes

Compared to last week, steer and heifer calves sold sharply higher from 15.00-30.00 higher. Yearling heifers sold steady to 3.00 higher and a load of yearling steers sold 10.00 higher than a similar sale from two weeks ago. Demand was very good and the market was active. On the board, grains were lower, cattle were higher and now we're looking at the August feeder cattle contract that is sharply higher than the expired May. Supply was moderate with a nice offering of calves and yearlings, but the yearling heifers made up a large portion with several loads from a few different consignors. Slaughter cows and bulls sold steady to 5.00 higher, spots up to 8.00 higher on boning type cows.

Supply included: 83% Feeder Cattle (35% Steers, 62% Heifers, 3% Bulls); 16% Slaughter Cattle (22% Steers, 7% Heifers, 59% Cows, 12% Bulls); 2% Replacement Cattle (100% Stock Cows). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 56%.
