Market Notes

Compared to last week, load lots of yearlings sold steady to firm, steer calves sold 5.00 higher, and heifer calves sold 5.00 to 10.00 higher. The supply of feeders was moderate with a larger percentage of calves under 600 lbs. compared to the previous auction. Demand was good and bidding was active throughout the day. Moods were brighter this week as most producers have seen rain over the last week, although there was a few that said moisture has missed them. Corn futures continue to drop with new crop just holding above the 5.00 mark by a few pennies. Although still much larger than typical the offering of slaughter cows was not as large as the previous weeks.

Supply included: 89% Feeder Cattle (57% Steers, 41% Heifers, 2% Bulls); 11% Slaughter Cattle (91% Cows, 9% Bulls); 1% Replacement Cattle (100% Bred Cows). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 39%.
