Market Notes

Compared to last week, steers traded mostly 3.00-7.00 lower following last week's sharply higher market while heifers sold mostly steady. Demand was good for several loads of yearling steers and heifers on offer. The hot,dry weather gives fewer grazing options for the calves and the heat had buyers more cautious but demand remained moderate to good. Supply was moderate. Slaughter cows sold 7.00-13.00 lower as large number of cows are making their way to town in several areas experiencing drought conditions across the country. Slaughter bulls traded 4.00-5.00 lower.

Supply included: 87% Feeder Cattle (54% Steers, 43% Heifers, 2% Bulls); 11% Slaughter Cattle (91% Cows, 9% Bulls); 2% Replacement Cattle (100% Bred Cows). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 68%.
