Market Notes

Compared to last week, steers and heifers sold steady to 3.00 higher. A few sales of steer calves under 500 lbs sold with a firm to higher undertone, but comparisons were light as the majority of the offering consisted of loads and packages of yearlings. Demand was good for the yearlings. Most of the calves were short weaned or just off the cow but of good quality and sold with little discount, while the few hard weaned steers offered under 550 lbs sold with very good demand with grass just around the corner. Supply was moderate. Cattle futures were higher and corn lower Tuesday. Slaughter cows and bulls sold steady.

Supply included: 90% Feeder Cattle (54% Steers, 44% Heifers, 2% Bulls); 8% Slaughter Cattle (41% Cows, 59% Bulls); 2% Replacement Cattle (100% Stock Cows). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 76%.
