Market Notes
Compared to last week, steer calves under 600 lbs traded 5.00-10.00 higher and those over 600 lbs sold steady. Heifer calves under 550 lbs traded firm to 5.00 higher and heavier weights sold steady to 3.00 lower. Demand was good to very good for a moderate supply. Despite the volatility in the futures markets, buyers were aggressively pursuing cattle and the market held up very well in the face of sharply higher corn and lower feeder cattle futures contracts. Slaughter cows sold 2.00-3.00 higher.
Supply included: 89% Feeder Cattle (51% Steers, 47% Heifers, 2% Bulls); 10% Slaughter Cattle (73% Cows, 27% Bulls); 1% Replacement Cattle (100% Stock Cows). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 58%.
