Market Notes
Compared to last week, steers under 750 lbs traded 5.00-9.00 higher and those over 750 lbs sold mostly 3.00 higher. Heifers sold steady to 3.00 higher. Supply was moderate to heavy and the overall quality was good. Demand was good to very good as buyers are getting more active about procuring spring grazing cattle. The yearling market also saw gains fueled by a sharply higher futures market Monday in anticipation of a bullish Cattle Inventory report that was released Monday afternoon which was in fact bullish, showing the nations herd is in decline.
Supply included: 89% Feeder Cattle (58% Steers, 39% Heifers, 2% Bulls); 10% Slaughter Cattle (87% Cows, 13% Bulls); 2% Replacement Cattle (100% Stock Cows). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 55%.
