Market Notes

Compared to last week, feeder sold uneven with steers under 650 lbs and heifers under 575 lbs trading steady to spots 5.00 higher and heavier calves and yearlings selling 3.00-5.00 lower. Supply was heavy and the overall quality was attractive with several loads of yearlings and strings of long weaned home raised calves. There has been some pressure on the market this week with the recent Cattle On Feed report being considered bearish, which sent futures lower while corn has seen some gains. However, the nations herd is in decline and there is still plenty of optimism in the market.

Supply included: 93% Feeder Cattle (59% Steers, 38% Heifers, 3% Bulls); 6% Slaughter Cattle (87% Cows, 13% Bulls); 1% Replacement Cattle (67% Stock Cows, 33% Bred Cows). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 56%.
