Market Notes
Compared to last week, both calves and yearling steers traded steady to 3.00 lower but the greener fleshed long weaned cattle traded fully steady. Heifer calves sold steady to 3.00 higher while the yearlings traded 4.00-6.00 higher than the more accurate test of two weeks ago. Demand was moderate to good, best for the green yearlings. Four loads of 800-875 lb steers in medium flesh were offered and sold with moderate demand. With the colder weather this week, some of the calves were carrying a little extra fill. Supply was moderate. Slaughter cows and bulls sold firm to 3.00 higher.
Supply included: 87% Feeder Cattle (59% Steers, 39% Heifers, 2% Bulls); 11% Slaughter Cattle (83% Cows, 17% Bulls); 2% Replacement Cattle (39% Stock Cows, 44% Bred Cows, 17% Cow-Calf Pairs). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 63%.
