Market Notes

Compared to last week, steers and heifers sold steady to 4.00 higher. A few packages of 400-500 lb steer calves sold with a higher undertone but had few comparable sales last week. Demand was good with several loads and packages of yearlings making up the majority of the moderate supply, but some good quality calves sold as well. Feeder Cattle futures have posted sharp gains to start the week. Slaughter cows and bulls sold steady.

Supply included: 88% Feeder Cattle (61% Steers, 1% Dairy Steers, 36% Heifers, 2% Bulls); 10% Slaughter Cattle (83% Cows, 17% Bulls); 2% Replacement Cattle (27% Stock Cows, 47% Bred Cows, 27% Cow-Calf Pairs). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 63%.
