Market Notes

Compared to last week, steers sold steady to 6.00 higher with the advance on those over 600 lbs. Heifers sold slightly uneven with calves under 600 lbs selling 3.00-5.00 lower, over 600 lbs mostly steady except for two loads of 715 lb heifers trading with a higher undertone but nothing recent to compare to. Demand was good for a moderate supply highlighted by 8 loads of yearlings, but the fleshier un-weaned calves under 600 lbs saw noticeably lighter demand as we head into the middle of summer. Both Live and Feeder Cattle futures had a positive day Tuesday while corn was lower, helping push the loads of yearlings higher. Slaughter cows sold 2.00-3.00 lower, bulls 5.00 lower.

Supply included: 89% Feeder Cattle (59% Steers, 40% Heifers, 1% Bulls); 10% Slaughter Cattle (87% Cows, 13% Bulls); 1% Replacement Cattle (55% Stock Cows, 45% Bred Cows). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 63%.
