Market Notes

Compared to last week, steers and heifers sold steady to 5.00 higher. The exception however was the higher quality weaned steers weighing 500-550 lbs selling up to 10.00 higher. Demand was good for a moderate supply that included five loads of yearlings steers and several attractive consignments of calves. Cattle futures have started the week higher as corn was sharply lower on Monday. Hay season is in full swing here in West Central Missouri with near perfect weather to put up hay. Slaughter cows and bulls sold steady to 2.00 higher.

Supply included: 93% Feeder Cattle (57% Steers, 37% Heifers, 6% Bulls); 6% Slaughter Cattle (84% Cows, 16% Bulls); 1% Replacement Cattle (100% Stock Cows). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 51%.
