Market Notes

Compared to last week, steers and heifers sold steady to 5.00 lower except for 400-500 lb heifer calves trading 10.00-12.00 lower than last weeks more active market for that weight range. A few consignments of yearling cattle were offered but mainly calves is what made their way to town, most of which were short weaned or off the cow and those un-weaned saw some slight discounts. May corn closed just shy of $7.00 on Tuesday and the grain market is no doubt the main factor pushing feeder cattle lower with the highest feed costs seen in years. Supply and demand were moderate. Slaughter cows sold steady to 2.00 lower.

Supply included: 81% Feeder Cattle (55% Steers, 42% Heifers, 3% Bulls); 17% Slaughter Cattle (76% Cows, 24% Bulls); 2% Replacement Cattle (100% Stock Cows). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 41%.
