Market Notes

Compared to last week, steers sold steady to 5.00 lower and heifers traded mostly steady, firm in spots for those under 550 lbs. Other than some loads and packages of yearling 800-900 lb steers, mostly new crop calves were offered. With more shorter weaned calves, the very top prices seen last week for the thinner yearlings weren't achieved, but demand was still good. Supply was moderate. Corn moved higher on Tuesday and in turn feeder cattle closed lower with most contracts down around $2.00. Slaughter cows and bulls sold steady to 1.00 higher.

Supply included: 87% Feeder Cattle (55% Steers, 43% Heifers, 3% Bulls); 10% Slaughter Cattle (72% Cows, 28% Bulls); 3% Replacement Cattle (68% Stock Cows, 32% Bred Cows). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 41%.
