Market Notes
Compared to last week, steers and heifers sold steady to spots 5.00 higher with the increase mostly on those under 550 lbs. A nice offering of calves were in town from some reputation producers probably sooner than they would like with forage in short supply in some areas but it made for an active market on the lighter cattle. Also, some quality strings of yearlings and long weaned calves were on hand and demand was good with the quality attractive. Supply was moderate to heavy. Slaughter cows and bulls sold mostly 1.00-3.00 lower but the fleshier cows sold 3.00-5.00 lower.
Supply included: 89% Feeder Cattle (54% Steers, 42% Heifers, 5% Bulls); 9% Slaughter Cattle (93% Cows, 7% Bulls); 2% Replacement Cattle (21% Stock Cows, 79% Bred Cows). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 37%.
