Market Notes

Compared to last week, steers sold steady to 5.00 higher with the advance on the 650-725 lb weight range. The bulk of heifer sales were weighing 575-700 lbs and those sold a full 5.00-10.00 higher on a very active market, the remainder of heifers sold steady. Demand was good to very good for some reputation strings of long-weaned cattle with attractive weigh-ups. Despite the wet weather, a moderate supply was offered and producers were rewarded for their efforts taking the cattle through the winter. As we move further into spring the hard weaned cattle will begin to be much harder to find, so buyers took advantage of their opportunity. Slaughter cows and bulls sold 2.00-5.00 higher.

Supply included: 99% Feeder Cattle (39% Steers, 58% Heifers, 3% Bulls); 0% Slaughter Cattle (80% Cows, 20% Bulls); 1% Replacement Cattle (100% Stock Cows). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 49%.
