Market Notes
Compared to last week, steers and heifers traded mostly steady to 3.00 higher, spots 5.00 to 8.00 higher on mid-weight steers. Demand moderate, supply light. The state got some moisture this past week, giving a welcomed break from the heat, albeit a short break. Some areas had flooding, but pastures soaked up the water and greened up. The most recent crop progress report from last week showed 49 percent of pastures rated good condition and 31 percent in the fair category. With the most recent rains, those numbers will most likely be improved with this week's report. Friday's boxed beef cuts closed lower from the previous week with 8.92 lower for Choice and 11.39 lower for Select cuts, at 336.42 and 302.13, respectively. Negotiated cash sales totaled just over 60,000 head for the week, as of Friday's report. Live sales were reported from 123.00 to 127.00 and dressed from 200.00 to 203.00. Estimated daily livestock slaughter as of Saturday’s close was at 624,000 head, 27,000 less than a week ago and 11,000 less than a year ago. Monday's Missouri Stocker Formula consisted of 3375 head with a weighted average weight of 551.53 lbs. and a price value of 171.78, 0.71 higher than last Monday.
Supply included: 82% Feeder Cattle (53% Steers, 43% Heifers, 4% Bulls, 0% Dairy Heifers); 10% Slaughter Cattle (2% Steers, 1% Heifers, 85% Cows, 12% Bulls); 8% Replacement Cattle (10% Stock Cows, 64% Bred Cows, 3% Bred Heifers, 22% Cow-Calf Pairs, 1% Heifer Pairs, 0% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 57%.
