Market Notes

Compared to last week, feeders sold steady to 5.00 lower. There were some spots of higher money scattered around, especially on the limited supply of feeders over 800 lbs. However, overall the market found a lot of pressure, especially on lighter weight, new crop calves which are currently making up most of the supply. Higher grain prices and cooler weather preventing grass from really taking off in most areas isn ’t helping support the market either. Livestock futures closed the week lower with the April live cattle contract down 2.57 and the nearby April feeder contract down 5.12. Boxed beef cutouts closed on Friday with choice at 276.05, up 3.88 and select at 269.10, up 5.03 compared to last week. As of the Friday afternoon report, about 85K head of negotiated feedlot sales were reported. Live prices were mostly steady to 1.00 higher ranging from 120.00-124.00 with a few in Neb at 126.00, dressed sales were unevenly steady to 1.00 higher at 194.00-196.00. The Missouri Stocker Formula consist of 6264 head with a weighted average weight of 530.91 lbs. and a price value of 169.52, 3.40 lower than last week.
