Market Notes

Compared to last week, steer and heifer calves under 350 lbs not well tested. Steer calves 350-450 lbs traded 6.00-8.00 higher; 450-500 lbs mostly steady; 500-550 lbs were sharply higher; 550-600 lbs were not well tested. Heifer calves 350-550 lbs traded 15.00-18.00 higher, with instances sharply higher on 450-500 lbs. Feeder steers 600-650 lbs 8.00 higher, instances 15.00 higher; over 650 lbs not well tested. Feeder heifers had insufficient numbers this week to compare. Trade active, demand good. Slaughter mostly steady, instances 6.00-8.00 on lean cows. Slaughter bulls steady to 3.00 lower.

Supply included: 87% Feeder Cattle (42% Steers, 6% Dairy Steers, 36% Heifers, 4% Bulls, 12% Dairy Heifers); 10% Slaughter Cattle (79% Cows, 21% Bulls); 4% Replacement Cattle (6% Stock Cows, 65% Bred Cows, 6% Bred Heifers, 24% Cow-Calf Pairs). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 28%.
