Market Notes

Compared to last week: In a narrow comparison, feeder steers under 700 lbs 7.00 to 10.00 lower except a couple instances of steady on 450500 lbs and 550-600 lbs. Steers over 700 lbs too lightly tested last week to allow a good comparison. Feeder heifers steady to 5.00 lower, except 550-600 lbs 8.00 to 10.00 lower. Very good demand remains for light weight cattle to run on grass this summer as yearlings as supply is limited. Only moderate demand for cattle bound for feedyards. This week's offering ranged from small packages to several long strings of backgrounded steers offered in full load lots. Overall, cattle were carrying more flesh than has been seen in recent weeks. But there were light fleshed cattle, including a string of steers that weighed 840 lbs offered in 5 full loads, and these cattle were met with a more active market than those cattle that were carrying more flesh condition. Cattle feeders are very uncertain of the path that lies ahead, as the trajectory of the corn market has been straight up the past two weeks and the Live Cattle futures haven't been able to find firm ground. Next feeder cattle sale will be in two weeks, March 24, 2022.

Supply included: 100% Feeder Cattle (73% Steers, 27% Heifers). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 87%. AUCTION This Week Last Reported 3/3/2022 Last Year Total Receipts: 2,421 1,643 2,800 Feeder Cattle: 2,421(100.0%) 1,643(100.0%) 2,800(100.0%)
