Market Notes

Compared to last week: Feeder steers under 600 lbs steady to 4.00 lower, 600-750 lbs 2.00 to 6.00 higher, over 750 lbs steady. Feeder heifers under 500 lbs 2.00 to 3.00 higher, over 500 lbs steady to 4.00 lower, except 600-650 lbs 2.00 higher. Moderate to good demand this week, snow at midweek across the state caused some consignment cancellations along with putting some pressure on the market. This tough winter being experienced across the plains has had a definite impact on the feeder cattle market as it has caused poor feed efficiency and increased operating cost as so much time and fuel is required to get snow moved and feeding pens cleaned out. Cash fed cattle market has slipped lower as well as packers continue to hold the leverage as it's been difficult to get cattle to plants and some shifts were missed last week with the storm in Nebraska.

Supply included: 100% Feeder Cattle (62% Steers, 0% Dairy Steers, 38% Heifers, 0% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 61%.
