North Dakota Weekly Cattle Auction Summary

Archived Report

4/2/2022

Total Run: 3,722

Market Notes

Compared to last week: Feeder steers 3.00 to 6.00 higher, heifers 2.00 to 3.00 higher except 500-550 lbs 10.00 to 12.00 higher. Good demand for this light offering of feeder cattle this week. Most producers have completed the marketing of last year's calf crop, as new calves begin to arrive, resulting in more limited numbers of feeder cattle being offered in the auctions. This fact is keeping the light weight cattle market red hot as yearling operators that still need grass cattle to turn out to compete heavily to get these cattle bought. The demand for steers and heifers bound for feedyards is more moderate as the costs of gain are very worrisome, as is the fact that the cash fed cattle market has so far failed to perform to it's expectations this spring.

Supply included: 100% Feeder Cattle (63% Steers, 36% Heifers, 1% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 57%.
