North Dakota Weekly Cattle Auction Summary

Total Run: 3,121

Market Notes

Compared to last week: Calves and yearlings too lightly tested last week to offer a good comparison with this week, higher undertones evident on calves. Very good demand for spring born calves, in spite of it being 2-3 months earlier than normal, very good demand remains for yearlings. Cattle feeders are feeling very optimistic about the future months in the fat cattle market, Apr Live Cattle futures contract at 140.00 is helping to support the feeder market. As the drought rages on across North Dakota cattle producers are having to pull their yearlings early and are forced to wean their calves and market them as they try to stretch their forage supplies.

Supply included: 100% Feeder Cattle (47% Steers, 53% Heifers, 0% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 72%.
