Market Notes

Compared to last week: Feeder steers and heifers 2.00 to 6.00 lower, except 400 lbs - 500 lbs steers 2.00 to 4.00 higher, over 900 lbs steers were not compared well, but sold with definite high undertones. Demand for this eye appealing offering of green cattle was good. Black hided cattle draw the biggest demand. Vaccinations, load lots vs packages and weaned vs right off the cow are also factors that affect the price farmers are willing to pay. Placements in feedlots in October were 6% below October 2021, lowest October since 1996. The fat market being higher than the futures offers hope in the coming months that cattle could be marketed for more than what the board is showing allowing buyers to pay higher prices for the yearling cattle. Slaughter cows Breaker and Lean steady to 2.00 higher, Boner 1.00 to 2.00 lower. Bulls steady.

Supply included: 95% Feeder Cattle (61% Steers, 39% Heifers); 5% Slaughter Cattle (87% Cows, 13% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 66%.
