Market Notes

Compared to last week feeder steers traded 3.00 to 5.00 lower. Feeder heifers were uneven. Slaughter cows were 2.00 to 5.00 higher and slaughter bulls were 3.00 to 5.00 higher. Extreme heat in the area and the hay harvest kept most of the farmers in the fields this week which impacted the the supply and demand from the buyers, but quality cattle held their own with the fleshy unweaned animals pushing the average some lower. Supply was light and demand was softer than last week.

Supply included: 82% Feeder Cattle (51% Steers, 36% Heifers, 12% Bulls); 13% Slaughter Cattle (79% Cows, 21% Bulls); 5% Replacement Cattle (25% Stock Cows, 31% Bred Cows, 38% Bred Heifers, 6% Cow-Calf Pairs). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 21%.
