Compared to last week calves under 600 lbs sold 15.00 to 20.00 higher, 600 to 700 lbs sold 4.00 higher, 700 to 900 lbs unevenly steady and over 900 lbs sold 3.00 higher on a heavy test. Heifers under 700 lbs sold 10.00 higher, over 700 lbs sold 2.00 to 6.00 higher. Demand was good for all offerings. Bawling spring calves with only branding shots continue to hit the market in the SW areas of the state as their pastures are brown and very short. Most of these calve are selling two to three months earlier than normal and pay weights a lot lighter than a typical year. Nebraska slaughter cattle slipped back a tick as lives sales sold with live sales trending 1.00 to 5.50 lower at mostly 138.00 and dressed sales 2.00 lower at 225.00. Spotting rains showers across the state along with hail and strong winds in some areas. A nice cool down prevailed with hot temperatures in next weeks forecast.
Supply included: 99% Feeder Cattle (56% Steers, 44% Heifers); 1% Slaughter Cattle (100% Cows). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 83%.
