Market Notes
Compared to last week steers under 600 lbs sold 12.00 to 15.00 higher, 600 to 800 lbs sold 8.00 to 10.00 higher and over 800 lbs sold steady to 3.00 higher. Heifers under 500 lbs sold 15.00 higher, 500 to 700 lbs sold 9.00 higher and over 700 lbs sold steady to 5.00 higher. Demand was very good for light fleshed calves that are suited for summer turnout and for some replacement heifers. Good demand was noted on feeders and bred cows. Some areas of the state received spotty rain showers. More rain will be needed as very windy days has dried out what little moisture some areas have received. Corn planting is under way and other spring crops are getting planted with some oats already breaking through the ground. Nebraska feedlot managers held firm on asking prices and got more money for their show list of cash cattle. Live sales sold from 123.00 to 125.00 and dressed sales 195.00 to 196.00. With the higher prices at week close.
Supply included: 90% Feeder Cattle (54% Steers, 46% Heifers, 0% Bulls); 7% Slaughter Cattle (100% Cows); 3% Replacement Cattle (62% Bred Cows, 14% Bred Heifers, 1% Cow-Calf Pairs, 23% Heifer Pairs). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 66%.
