Market Notes

Compared to last week, feeder steers under 400 lbs were 9.00-10.00 higher, and steers over 400 lbs were mostly 3.00-6.00 higher with some instances of 8.00 higher; feeder heifers were mostly 3.00-7.00 higher, with instances of 8.00-9.00 higher; feeder bulls were mostly 6.00-8.00 higher with instances of 9.00-10.00 higher. Overall, very good demand for all feeder classes was noted throughout the week, with buyers especially interested in long-weaned (45+ days), preconditioned feeder cattle. Slaughter cows were unevenly steady with instances of 5.00 higher to 5.00 lower, with slaughter bulls mostly steady. Heavy offerings of slaughter classes this week created a limited test to last week, however, demand was mostly moderate to good.

Supply included: 80% Feeder Cattle (32% Steers, 50% Heifers, 18% Bulls); 16% Slaughter Cattle (0% Steers, 85% Cows, 14% Bulls); 4% Replacement Cattle (1% Stock Cows, 56% Bred Cows, 15% Bred Heifers, 23% Cow-Calf Pairs, 4% Heifer Pairs, 1% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 32%.
