Compared to last week, feeder steers sold 6.00 to 10.00 higher. Heifers under 600 lbs sold 11.00 to 15.00 higher; over 600 lbs sold 2.00 to 4.00 higher. Slaughter cows sold uneven; breakers and boners steady to 1.00 lower and lean cows 3.00 higher. Slaughter bulls sold steady. Demand was reported as moderate to good throughout the state. Compared to last week, fed slaughter steers and heifers in the feed yards sold 2.00 lower at 173.00. In the hay market: compared to the last report demand remains good, prices remained steady, trade activity remains slow. Dry and windy is repeatedly reported throughout most of the state. New crop pricing is slow to come in, as most are unsure whether they will have much of a hay crop. Corn planting is taking place in the east and central regions while folks are backing off in the west due to the lack of rain.
Supply included: 91% Feeder Cattle (55% Steers, 45% Heifers, 0% Bulls); 8% Slaughter Cattle (89% Cows, 11% Bulls); 1% Replacement Cattle (10% Stock Cows, 21% Bred Cows, 1% Bred Heifers, 68% Cow-Calf Pairs). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 74%.
