Market Notes

Compared to last week, steers and heifers sold firm to 5.00 higher, except some 450-500 lb heifers and 550-700 lb steers 6.00 to 12.00 higher with a few new players in the mix. Slaughter cows 6.00 to 7.00 higher. It was bitterly cold outside Wednesday but the market was pretty hot from the start and only got better as the day wore on. Buyers were eager to own stock and in some spots, pushed prices beyond the last sale's highs very quickly. Quality ran deep and several heifers were bought for replacement again this week. Supply heavy, demand good to very good.

Supply included: 98% Feeder Cattle (52% Steers, 48% Heifers); 2% Slaughter Cattle (95% Cows, 5% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 66%.
