Market Notes

Compared to two weeks ago, steers and heifers traded fully 4.00 to 8.00 higher. Slaughter cows 2.00 to 4.00 higher. Really good quality and condition on offer all day made for a very active market. Buyers were ready to own new stock with spring grass right around the corner and with the beef sector as a whole feeling optimistic. The feeder market has worked its way up the past couple weeks on the recent strength of the fed cattle market, excellent beef demand and rising boxed beef prices. Supply heavy, demand good to very good for all weight classes.

Supply included: 97% Feeder Cattle (42% Steers, 58% Heifers); 3% Slaughter Cattle (87% Cows, 13% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 50%.
