Market Notes

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers under 700 lbs traded 3.00 to 5.00 higher with spots up to 10.00 higher on grass grazers under 550 lbs. Yearlings unevenly steady. Slaughter cows 2.00 to 4.00 lower. Overall quality was more attractive than a week ago. Yearling cattle continue to toe the line as feed costs remain a concerning factor and fat trade this week looks to be steady at best. Otherwise, demand was good and improved as the sale moved along, creating some wider than normal price spreads. Supply moderate to heavy for the first week of March.

Supply included: 89% Feeder Cattle (52% Steers, 48% Heifers); 3% Slaughter Cattle (77% Cows, 23% Bulls); 8% Replacement Cattle (17% Bred Cows, 83% Cow-Calf Pairs). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 53%.
